Sequoia, Khosla, Y Combinator Lead 2026 Unicorn Investors

Sequoia Capital, Khosla Ventures and Y Combinator rank as the most active investors in the 250 companies that reached unicorn status through Aug. 15, 2026.

Sequoia Capital, Khosla Ventures and Y Combinator Top Investors in 2026 Unicorns

Through Aug. 15, 250 companies reached unicorn status, up from 193 in 2025, according to Crunchbase News. Leading sectors included robotics, AI labs, healthcare and biotech, financial services, AI infrastructure, and AI deployment.

Investor Rankings

The top 10 most active investors by investment count were Sequoia Capital, Khosla Ventures, Y Combinator, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Founders Fund, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Lux Capital, General Catalyst, and BoxGroup. Y Combinator is the only accelerator on the list, and BoxGroup is the only seed investor. HSG is the leading Asia-based firm. Private equity firms Valor Equity Partners and Thrive Capital appear on the broader list of 29 investors, along with corporate venture arms Nvidia and NVentures.

Y Combinator and Sequoia Capital recorded the largest seed portfolio counts for investments of $20 million or less. BoxGroup ranked third in seed count. Soma Capital backed five companies at seed, while South Park Commons, Lux Capital and Founders Fund each backed four.

Geographic and Funding Details

Of the 250 companies, 139 (56%) are U.S.-headquartered and 47 (19%) are from China. Most funding occurred in 2026, totaling $74 billion out of $98 billion, or 75%, according to Crunchbase News. Thirty percent of deals, or 329, took place in 2026.

Stage Activity

The most active Series A lead investors were Andreessen Horowitz, with Khosla Ventures, Spark Capital and Sequoia Capital each leading six rounds. Series A sizes ranged from $6 million to $500 million. Most deals in the cohort occurred in prior years, with seed rounds dating to 2012, Series A to 2014 and Series B to 2017.
