Funding and Deal Timing
According to Crunchbase News, 75% of all funding for these companies, or $74 billion out of $98 billion, occurred in 2026. Thirty percent of deals, or 329 rounds, closed in 2026. Most deals took place in prior years, with seed rounds beginning in 2012, Series A in 2014 and Series B in 2017.
Most Active Investors
The ten most active investors by count in this cohort are Sequoia Capital, Khosla Ventures, Y Combinator, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Founders Fund, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Lux Capital, General Catalyst and BoxGroup. Y Combinator is the only accelerator and BoxGroup the only dedicated seed firm on the list. HSG, formerly Sequoia Capital China, is the leading Asia-based investor. Private equity firms Valor Equity Partners and Thrive Capital appear, as do corporate investors Nvidia and NVentures.
Stage Breakdown
Y Combinator and Sequoia Capital recorded the highest counts of seed investments at $20 million or less. BoxGroup placed third in seed count.
