Sequoia, Khosla Lead Investors in 250 New 2026 Unicorns

Crunchbase data shows Sequoia Capital, Khosla Ventures and Y Combinator as top investors in 250 companies that reached unicorn status through Aug. 15.

Sequoia, Khosla Lead Investors in 250 New 2026 Unicorns

Two hundred fifty companies joined the unicorn ranks through Aug. 15, up from 193 in 2025, according to Crunchbase News. Seventy-five percent of the $98 billion raised by these companies, or $74 billion, came in 2026. Thirty percent of the 329 deals occurred in 2026.

Geographic and Sector Breakdown

One hundred thirty-nine companies, or 56 percent, are U.S.-headquartered. Forty-seven companies, or 19 percent, are from China. Leading sectors include robotics, AI labs, healthcare and biotech, financial services, AI infrastructure, and AI deployment.

Top Active Investors

The ten most active investors by investment count are Sequoia Capital, Khosla Ventures, Y Combinator, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Founders Fund, Andreessen Horowitz, Bessemer Venture Partners, Lux Capital, General Catalyst, and BoxGroup, according to Crunchbase News. Y Combinator is the only accelerator and BoxGroup the only seed investor on the list. HSG, formerly Sequoia Capital China, is the leading Asia-based firm among 29 investors tracked. Valor Equity Partners and Thrive Capital represent private equity. Nvidia and NVentures appear on the corporate venture side.

Y Combinator and Sequoia Capital recorded the largest counts of seed investments at $20 million or less. BoxGroup placed third. Soma Capital backed five companies at seed. South Park Commons, Lux Capital, and Founders Fund each backed four. Lux Capital and Founders Fund share three portfolio companies.

Series A Activity

Andreessen Horowitz led the most Series A rounds. Khosla Ventures, Spark Capital, and Sequoia Capital each led six. Series A sizes ranged from $6 million to $500 million. Larger rounds were not dominant for most firms except Ant Group, Founders Fund, and Bessemer Venture Partners.

Most funding occurred in 2026 while seed rounds date back to 2012, Series A to 2014, and Series B to 2017, per Crunchbase News.
