Seed Rounds of $5M to $10M Cluster in Four Sectors

Crunchbase News examined roughly 800 global seed financings closed this year that fell in the $5 million to $10 million range. The analysis identified four sectors with repeated activity after excluding cybersecurity, which was covered separately.

Proptech

Real estate accounted for two-thirds of global net worth according to a McKinsey estimate published a few years ago. Last year proptech startup investment totaled just over $10 billion. Seed investors closed multiple rounds in the target range for companies addressing planning and building efficiencies, rental operations and building power consumption. Sample companies include Hint, Optiml and Krane.

Cancer Therapeutics

An estimated 39 percent of Americans will be diagnosed with cancer at some point. Cancer ranks as the second leading cause of death. Seed-stage companies developing therapeutics and diagnostics secured several rounds in the $5 million to $10 million range. Three California companies each raised $10 million: Rybodyn, Vivere Oncotherapies and Valius Sciences.

Space Tech

Space tech produced multiple seed rounds in the target range this year. The largest was Lux Aeterna, focused on reusable satellites. InSpacePropulsion Technologies and Constellation Space also closed rounds in the range.

Robotics

Robotics appeared again in the seed data with 18 companies meeting the parameters. The sector showed the widest geographic spread, with companies based in Asia, North America, Europe and Australia. Standouts include Somnia Lab, Bubble Robotics and Eternal.ag.
