Indian financial services group Motilal Oswal has appointed former Temasek India co-head Padmanabh Sinha to lead its alternative investment business, as the firm expands across private equity, real estate and private credit, according to Private Equity Wire.
Sinha is joining Motilal Oswal Alternates, which manages approximately $3.5bn in assets, according to Private Equity Wire.
Mandate spans private equity, real estate and private credit
Motilal Oswal’s appointment of Sinha is tied to the firm’s expansion across private equity, real estate and private credit, according to Private Equity Wire.
The Private Equity Wire report describes Motilal Oswal Alternates as being in a period of fundraising and diversification.
Sinha’s prior roles at Temasek, NIIF and Tata Opportunities Fund
Sinha previously held senior investment roles at Temasek, India’s National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and Tata Opportunities Fund.
He most recently served as executive director and chief investment officer at NIIF until April 2025.
After leaving NIIF in April 2025, he departed to establish an independent private equity fund.
Recent fundraising and product expansion at Motilal Oswal Alternates
Private Equity Wire reports that Motilal Oswal Alternates closed its largest private equity fund in February at $938m.
The same report says the fund close attracted international investors for the first time.
Private Equity Wire also reports that Motilal Oswal Alternates entered the private credit market in 2025.
In that private credit push, the firm was targeting more than $300m in commitments.
Competitive backdrop in India’s alternative investment industry
The leadership change comes amid continued growth in India’s alternative investment industry, which Private Equity Wire reports is supported by increasing allocations from domestic institutions and wealthy individuals.
Private Equity Wire also reports that other managers, including Kotak Alternate Asset Managers and 360 ONE, have strengthened their senior leadership teams as competition for private markets capital intensifies.
Widely-known context: Temasek is a Singapore-headquartered investment company, and “private credit” commonly refers to non-bank lending strategies provided to companies through privately negotiated transactions.
